“Real People, Real videos”, an ironic slogan from powerhouse social media platform Tik Tok. In the past two years, this video-centric app has garnered the attention of everyone from the youth to the elderly. Just about every form of content can be created: whether its comedy, gaming, news, or the infamous dancing complications, just about anyone can post something. Lately; however, there has been an uproar from numerous plus-sized influencers-like Lizzo- on the platform. Some of them have reported that some of their videos- while not sexually explicit- of them either performing a Tik Tok dance on the beach with their bikini on or something of the like have been taken down for “violating guidelines”. And yet, the same kind of content of content can be created by someone who is of a thinner stature and that video is somehow in compliance.
